Overnight ramp and lane closures on Interstate 65 and Interstate 264 (Watterson Expressway) in Louisville are anticipated this weekend. Contract crews will continue preparations to temporarily widen some ramps in advance of the closure of a five-mile section of I-65 this June and July.
Friday, April 17 and Sunday, April 19 | 9 p.m. through 6 a.m.
- Ramp from eastbound I-264 to northbound and southbound I-65 (Exit 12) closed, including Fair/Expo Center Main Gate; Terminal Drive open east from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport
- Ramp from Crittenden Drive (KY 1631) to eastbound I-264 closed
- Eastbound I-264 lane closure between KY 1631 (Crittenden Drive) and the I-65 interchange
No closures are scheduled overnight Saturday, April 18 for Thunder Over Louisville.
Drivers should stay alert, watch for signage, and slow down in work zones. Map apps like Waze account for closures and guide drivers along the most efficient route at the time of travel.
St. Catherine Ramp Closure
The ramp from southbound I-65 to east St. Catherine Street (Exit 135) is anticipated to close on or after early Monday, May 4.
The exit ramp is part of adjacent work to replace the I-65 bridge over Kentucky and Brook streets. The ramp is expected to reopen late this year.
What to Expect This Summer
Five miles of I-65 are scheduled to close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) early on Monday, June 1 and reopen to two lanes of traffic in each direction on Saturday, Aug. 1.
During the closure, through traffic will be detoured to I-264 (Georgia Davis Powers Expressway) on the west side of Louisville. The signed detour route is the shortest distance, utilizes roadways with the most available capacity, and creates the least traffic impacts.
During the two-month closure, work is being accelerated to replace three key bridges. The I-65 bridges over Kentucky Street/Brook Street, Hill Street/CSX Railroad/Burnett Avenue, and Bradley Avenue near the fairgrounds are being replaced.
